Guangdong's GDP leads the nation during 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25)
Guangdong officials highlighted the province's accomplishments during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period during a news conference in Guangzhou on Thursday, pointing to its steady GDP growth and energy capacity development.
The province continued its decades-long reign atop the nation's GDP growth list. From 2021 to 2024, its GDP grew by a trillion yuan ($140 billion) each year, surpassing 12 trillion yuan in 2021 and reaching 14.16 trillion yuan in 2024.
With an average annual growth rate of 4.7 percent in the first four years of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the province played a big part in promoting the economic construction of the country, said Hu Hong, deputy director general of the Guangdong provincial government, while speaking at the news conference.
Qin Liming, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, lauded the province's progress in total installed power capacity, saying it had reached more than 256 million kilowatts, among which the installed capacity of non-fossil energy power generation had increased by 150 percent.
More than 7,600 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines and 700,000 public charging piles have been built in the province, achieving full coverage of public charging piles in 1,123 towns and townships, according to Qin. "Both the ownership and charging capacity of public charging facilities rank first in China," he said.
"Meanwhile, Guangdong's energy self-sufficiency rate has increased by six percentage points, while its natural gas storage capacity has doubled," he added.
Since the beginning of the year, Guangdong's power load has hit a record high three times due to its sustainable economic growth, showing that the peak-shaving guarantee capacity of the energy system has been continuously enhanced in the province, he added.
