Liu Shaoyong, former Party secretary and chairman of China Eastern Airlines Holding Co Ltd, has been indicted on suspicion of bribery, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, China's top prosecuting authority, announced on Friday.

The SPP said prosecutors in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, have been assigned to review and prosecute the case. Liu has been transferred to the Shenyang Intermediate People's Court for further judicial proceedings.

During the review and prosecution process, prosecutors informed Liu of his litigation rights, interrogated him and heard opinions?of his lawyers in accordance with the law.

According to the indictment, Liu is accused of exploiting positions at multiple airline companies to seek benefits for others in exchange for large amounts of money and valuables. Prosecutors said the alleged conduct should be investigated for criminal liability on bribery charges.

Public records show that Liu, 67, is a native of Henan province and joined the Communist Party of China in April 1977. He began working in the civil aviation industry in December 1978 and later served as deputy head of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, general manager of China Southern Air Holding Company Limited, and chairman of China Eastern Airlines Holding Co.

Liu came under investigation in June 2025 for alleged serious violations of Party discipline and national laws. Earlier this year, he was expelled from the Party.
