The 2026 Council of British International Schools Primary Games kicked off on Thursday at AISL Harrow Haikou, Hainan province. It marked the first time the international event has been held in China.

More than 100 primary school students aged 10 to 11 from 27 countries and regions such as China, the United Kingdom and Russia gathered for the three-day event, where they participated in soccer, basketball, and track and field matches.

The event provided a platform for them to compete and forge friendships at the Hainan Free Trade Port, creating a cross-border celebration for youth sports exchange.

At the opening ceremony, students from AISL Harrow Haikou welcomed the visiting young athletes, waving the flags of different countries. School delegations from different countries and regions marched in proudly behind their banners, showcasing the vibrant spirit of these international competitors.

AISL Harrow Haikou headmaster Olly Wells said the school secured the hosting rights not only because of its ability to connect with international sporting event resources, its first-class competition venues and facilities, and its outstanding reputation, but also because of the policy dividends of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
