Former top anti-corruption official expelled from CPC
Xu Chuanzhi, a former vice-ministerial-level official at China's central inspection group, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for serious breaches of Party discipline and alleged violations of national laws, the country's top anti-corruption watchdog said.
The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced the decision in a statement online on Sunday. The central inspection group is directly dispatched by the CPC Central Committee to conduct inspections in various departments and regions, aiming to ensure compliance with Party discipline, strengthen internal Party supervision, promote integrity, and rectify existing issues.
In October 2025, Xu was placed under investigation for severe violations of Party discipline and national laws. The commission found that Xu was disloyal to the Party and failed to report personal matters in line with Party rules.
He was also found to have illegally accepted invitations to banquets and resisted the investigation. In addition, he sought benefits for others in personnel selection and job promotion, receiving properties in exchange.
The investigation revealed that Xu used his position to benefit relatives and received gifts, money, and consumption cards in return. He was also found to have interfered in law enforcement, judicial activities, and economic events, and accepted large amounts of property after providing benefits for others in business operations, case handling, and job adjustments.
Given the serious violations, the commission said it expelled Xu from the Party and confiscated his illicit gains. The suspected criminal issues, along with the properties involved, have been transferred to prosecutors for further review.
Public records show Xu, 68, a native of Shandong, began his career in 1975 and joined the Party in 1978. He held various positions in the central commission for discipline inspection between 1982 and 2016, and later served as secretary of the discipline inspection commission of the Ningxia Hui autonomous region.
