Exclusive interview with Iris Chang's mother Ying-Ying Chang
As the world commemorates the 88th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, we spoke with Ms Ying-Ying Chang about her daughter Iris Chang's contribution to preserving this essential piece of history.
In the interview, Ms Chang expressed her deep concern that this painful chapter may fade from public memory, underscoring the need to preserve it through literature, media, and art. She reminded us that remembering isn't about harboring hatred but about learning from the past. "If we fail to do this," she warned, "history is certain to repeat itself."
Her words echo Iris Chang's lifelong mission to ensure history is never forgotten. In these uncertain times, their shared commitment stands as a powerful reminder that remembrance and vigilance remain the foundation for peace.
