Chinese courts should take the lead in upholding the dignity of the Constitution and ensuring its implementation, standard judicial conduct, and improving the quality of case handling, according to the president of the country's top court.

As China observes its National Constitution Day on Thursday, Zhang Jun, the chief justice of the Supreme People's Court, emphasized the necessity for the judiciary to function strictly within the boundaries of the Constitution and the law.

He stressed the need to exercise power in accordance with the Constitution, focusing on economic and social development goals and tasks for the next five years, and called for fair and efficient adjudication and enforcement of cases to resolve disputes and genuinely serve the people through the judiciary.

On Thursday morning, in the presence of national lawmakers and political advisers, 96 individuals, including new judges and officials from the top court, took an oath to uphold the Constitution.
