China has lodged, and will continue to lodge, strong representations with Japan, urging it to retract Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's erroneous remarks concerning China's Taiwan region, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Monday.
At a regular news conference, Mao urged the Japanese side to immediately reflect on its wrongdoing.
Her comments came following reports that Masaaki Kanai, an official from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has arrived in China and is expected to meet with Liu Jinsong, director-general of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry.
