Former senior political adviser expelled, dismissed for legal violations
Liu Kuanren, former vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy and former vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shaanxi Provincial Committee, has been dismissed from public office, the National Supervisory Commission said on Monday.
Liu was suspected of serious violations of duty and was placed under investigation by the commission in May.
The investigation revealed that Liu attended banquets, accepted gifts and money, and used his positions to benefit others in business operations, project contracting, and job promotions, accepting large amounts of money and goods in return. He also embezzled public funds for personal use.
Liu's actions constitute serious violations of duty, and he is suspected of bribery and embezzlement. His case, along with his illegal gains, will be transferred to the procuratorial authorities for legal review and prosecution.
Liu, 62, is a native of Shaanxi province. He began working in July 1987 and joined the China Association for Promoting Democracy in October 1998. From November 1991 to 2000, he taught at the Xi'an Conservatory of Music in the province, followed by his appointment as deputy head of the provincial department of culture.
He began serving as the vice chairman of the CPPCC Shaanxi Provincial Committee in 2018 and became the vice chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy in 2022.
