Handshakes between service members contribute more to peace than the exchange of fire, a Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman said on Tuesday, as the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum on global security prepares to open on Wednesday.

Spokesman Jiang Bin made the remarks during an online news briefing, saying that in the upcoming "Xiangshan Time," participants will engage in equal-footed dialogue under the theme of upholding international order and promoting peaceful development.

"As of today, official delegations from more than 100 countries, regions, and international organizations have confirmed attendance at the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, including over 40 ministerial representatives and military chiefs," Jiang said.

This year's forum will have broader and more balanced representation, with more than 1,800 participants registered, he said. Senior attendees include the under secretary-general of the United Nations, the secretary-general of ASEAN, and the vice president of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Participants will discuss peace and security issues, explore conflict resolution, strengthen cooperation and communication, and advance the Global Security Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, Jiang said, "thereby walking together toward a brighter future."
