Book on HKSAR's role in nation's opening-up published
A book on Hong Kong's participation in the nation's reform and opening-up was published on Monday, detailing the special administrative region's contributions and gains in the historic move from 1978 onward.
The book, which was written in Chinese, comprises about 1.2 million words in two volumes. It focuses on the economic and financial areas, and also touches upon the social and culture sectors.
The book includes more than 500 historical photos, some of which have never before been revealed, including a group photo showing Gordon Wu Ying-sheung, Li Ka-shing and other Hong Kong business magnates' visit to Beijing in 1977.
It is the second book in the Hong Kong Chronicles series featuring Hong Kong's history from ancient times to contemporary society, which was compiled by the Hong Kong Chronicles Institute. The first book, Overview & Chronology, was published in December 2020.
Sam Lam, president of the institute, said the new book contains comprehensive content and exclusive information. He hopes a review of the close interaction between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland can offer enlightenment to today's society, including the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
