Fighter jet missing off eastern Taiwan

        TAIPEI -- An F-16 fighter jet, with a pilot on board, went missing off the eastern coast of Taiwan on Tuesday evening, the island's authorities said.
The fighter jet went off the radar at 6:07 pm, two minutes after taking off from a base in Hualien in eastern Taiwan.
A joint rescue operation has been launched to locate the aircraft and the pilot, authorities said.
