Comment on "Where will China-Britain relations go?" (China Daily website)

The author shows very little understanding of the modern Conservative Party or the coalition government in the UK.

David Cameron says his government will be the "greenest government ever". Together with the Liberal Democrats, the new government promises to return and protect civil liberties, which is hardly being more lax on human rights. The coalition has Nick Clegg as deputy prime minister, who actively campaigns for Britain to have much closer ties with the EU and wants to adopt the euro as UK's currency.

The Labor Party also advocates free trade and open markets, just like all other UK mainstream parties.

Finally, regarding the US, politicians in the UK get enough stick from UK citizens about flattering the US. Ordinary people in the UK do not want that, but we do respect our friendship with the US, and rightly so.

In reality, the new coalition government will probably not change relations with China at all.
