Guizhou province has reported a boom in the health and pharmaceutical business recently, with 208 deals in medical materials, apparatus manufacturing and processing signed this year, worth an estimated 177-billion yuan ($27.7 billion).
These include 79 deals related to the province's key projects for 2015, one of them for a hepatitis medicine in the process of development with hopes for a breakthrough in treatment and reflecting the province's R&D capability.
One of the people in the business, Hu Pingsheng, has cooperated with institutions in developed countries, such as Sweden and the United States and acquired 18 international patents from Sweden and set up a pharmaceutical company.
There are also new pharmaceutical products related to genetic developments, enzymes, and fermentation engineering being created in this distant mountainous province.
