Shi Yongliang, a monk from the South Shaolin Temple, ran 125 meters on his fourth attempt, breaking his previous record by 5 meters.

The props for his incredible show were nearly 200 wooden slates floating on the surface of the Caobang Reservoir in Quanzhou.

Even with the support of the slates, however, it still remains a big challenge for most people. Several onlookers took a try but none of them managed to move forward 10 meters.

Shi, a Chinese martial arts practitioner since a young age, said he works out every day and pays attention to his weight.

“To be able to run (on floating wooden slates) you have to take small and swift steps, land with the tiptoe first, keep the body leaning forward and stay calm,” he said.

The performance raised 2,000 yuan, which will be used to cover tuition fees for students whose parents are currently serving jail terms.
