A program that aims to nurture expertise in five science majors is helping Chinese students prepare for bright academic futures as it remodels teaching and training methods in Chinese universities, academics said.

Launched in 2009 by various ministries, the program trains top students to become academic leaders in math, physics, chemistry, computer science and biology.

It has been implemented in 19 universities, including Peking, Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong and Fudan.
