HARBIN -- Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province has set up four mobile emergency stations along its eastern border regions to monitor radiation leaked from the quake-damaged Daiichi nuclear plant in Fukushima of Japan.

The four mobile stations were set up on the Russian-bordering regions of Dongning, Hulin, Raohe and Wusu.

Environmental protection authorities in Heilongjiang also have a permanent nuclear monitoring station working around the clock in Harbin, its provincial capital.

The five stations had not detected any abnormal levels of radioactive substances by Wednesday noon, said Xu Lijuan, a deputy director of Heilongjiang's radiation monitoring station.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has ordered 12 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the east of the country to ramp up monitoring efforts.

In a circular released Tuesday night, the ministry called for more frequent emergency monitoring over air, sea water, dust particles and rain water.
