SYDNEY: Australian business capability will be on show at Shanghai World Expo 2010, one of the largest events ever to be staged in China.

Austrade's China country manager Christopher Wright said on Monday Australian business will make an important contribution to the staging of Expo.

"As well as a great platform to showcase Australia's culture and lifestyle to the world, it is also an opportunity to promote Australia's business strengths," Wright said.

"Australian companies have won Expo related deals in areas as diverse as infrastructure and construction, sustainable design, education, and in the provision of artistic and cultural programs, " Wright added.

BlueScope Steel will supply premium steel for construction of the facade and roof of the Australian pavilion, and has also won deals to supply premium steel for other Expo constructions.

Sydney's Dynalite will also supply dim lighting systems for the China Pavilion in a deal worth 2.35 million Australian dollars ($2.1 million).

TAFE New South Wales, provider of training services to the Australian Pavilion, is contracted to develop master plans for Shanghai 2010 Expo Bureau to implement workforce training and will provide curriculum in English and Mandarin.

Commencing on May 1, the 2010 World Expo will attract 70 million visitors from 200 countries and 50 international organizations on a site comprising nearly six square kilometers of downtown Shanghai.
