GUIYANG: Eight workers were trapped in a collapsed tunnel early Friday morning along the Guiyang-Kunming railway line near Liupanshui City in southwest China's Guizhou Province, a local official said Friday.

Long Qiufang, secretary-general of the Liupanshui city government, said the rescue was still underway on Friday afternoon.

"Rescuers heard someone knocking inside the tunnel at around 3:50 pm," Long said.
