CHONGQING -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin called on members of all political parties and people of various circles to make concerted efforts to help the nation maintain steady and relatively fast economic growth and social harmony and stability.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks Wednesday in Chongqing when meeting with members of the "United Front", a term used by the Communist Party of China (CPC) to describe its policy of uniting political forces representing people of various circles.

Jia, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said 2009 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Republic of China, and the founding of the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC. He called on non-communist parties to adhere to the system.

According to Jia, the top priority of the United Front's work is to help maintain steady and relatively fast economic growth at present.

Members of the United Front should take advantage of their extensive resources to address the underlying problems with China's economy and issues of wide public concern, said Jia.
