Updated: 2009-09-21 10:13 Abandonment of the missile defense system in Europe by Obama is a step in the right direction to peace and to curb the prospect of further arms race. Any alliance cannot gain military advantage without having others not to reciprocate with steps to balance it. I am quite sure the gesture of peace by Obama will be met with a reciprocal gesture from Russia for instance. Established in 1945 under the UN Charter, the General Assembly (GA) occupies a central position as the chief deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN.
In the past few years while adhering to the Scientific Outlook on Development Hu promotes, China has been working towards rigorous targets - which it had set for itself - to promote clean energy, push for energy efficiency and cut greenhouse emissions.
I hope China will categorically outline her stance on vital international issues. I would be totally disappointed if deliberations after this UN summits turn out to be "the same old wine in old cups."
