China's imports are projected at 1 trillion US dollars in 2010, from the current level of around 800 billion, Ministry of Commerce spokesman Wang Xinpei said at a briefing.

China has been attempting to expand imports, as well as cut or remove export tax rebates on a wide range of products, in order to help reduce the country's trade surplus, Wang said.

China's trade surplus stood at 22.45 billion US dollars in May.
