Producer price index up 2.8% in May

The producer prices index (PPI) in China grew 2.8 percent year-on-year in May, mainly propped up by a 3.6 percent rise in procurement prices of raw materials and energy, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Monday.

The PPI for means of production rose 2.9 percent, with prices in mining sector up 0.3 percent, according to an NBS report.

Prices in the raw material sector recorded a 5.7 percent growth, and that in the processing sector posted a 1.8 percent increase.

The PPI for means of livelihood climbed 2.4 percent in May. The PPI for foodstuff rose 6.3 percent, garment up 1.3 percent and daily necessities up 1.2 percent.

The producer prices of crude oil dropped by 3.9 percent, while gas, kerosene and diesel oil was up 2.5 percent, 5.8 percent and 7.1 percent, respectively.

The producer price for coal in May rose 2.3 percent.
