According to an introduction on the website of Hebei provincial government, it was built between 1567 and 1582 under the supervision of famed Ming dynasty (1368-1644) general Qi Jiguang.
The 10.5-km-long wall is renowned for its well-preserved defense system, dense watchtowers and unique features such as barrier walls and inscribed bricks.
