Off-road brand 212 sets its sights on global horizon
Chinese off-road vehicle manufacturer 212 is accelerating its push into the global off-road market, showcasing the strength and appeal of Chinese off-road vehicles through new technology platforms and models at the ongoing Auto China 2026 in Beijing.
At the auto show, 212 launched two core technology platforms — Xiake and Yuanzheng, which respectively mean "knight-errant" and "expedition" — and each has a clear and distinct position.
The Xiake platform, designed for off-road driving, adopts a front and rear five-link solid axle setup and a body-on-frame construction. It supports petrol, diesel and hybrid power trains, and can accommodate three-door, five-door and pickup body styles.
The Yuanzheng platform is a future-oriented, full-scenario intelligent off-road architecture balancing long-distance travel and urban commuting, integrating intelligence and comfort.
212 launched new models at the event, including the Explorer 01, the brand's first full-scenario off-road pickup truck, and the 2026 T01 off-road.
"The upgrade of the 2026 T01 is the result of user co-creation. We listen to the needs of global users throughout the product definition and iteration process," said He Zhaopeng, general manager of 212 marketing company, in an interview on Friday.
He said this is due to the company's long-term focus on the hardcore off-road segment, retaining classic configurations such as front and rear solid axles and pursuing a premium and differentiated route rather than blind scale expansion.
Looking ahead, He predicted that boxy off-road vehicles will see explosive growth, similar to the rise of SUVs a decade ago. 212 will continue to adhere to a differentiated route, refusing to follow mainstream suspension layouts. It will adopt differentiated hybrid technology tailored to off-road scenarios when entering the new energy sector, upholding its brand essence and deepening its presence in the global off-road market, He added.
