The world's first pure car truck carrier (PCTC) with a capacity exceeding 10,000 vehicles was delivered after a naming ceremony in Guangzhou's Nansha district on Tuesday, setting a new global record for single-vessel carrying capacity.

The vessel, named Glovis Leader, was built by Guangzhou Shipyard International for South Korea's HMM. It was constructed at GSI's facility on Longxue Island at the mouth of the Pearl River, where the shipyard has now built and delivered 26 PCTCs in total.

Glovis Leader measures 230 meters long with a molded breadth of 40 meters and a structural draft of 10.5 meters. Its 14-deck garage design accommodates up to 10,800 vehicles, including electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks, and can reach a top speed of 19 knots, according to a statement released by GSI on Tuesday.

The ship runs on a diesel and LNG dual-fuel propulsion system equipped with shaft generators that enable power generation during navigation. It meets IMO Tier III emission standards, the statement said.

GSI, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corp and a Shanghai Stock Exchange-listed company, has secured more than 40 PCTC orders to date. It's delivered vessels — spanning models with capacities of 7,000, 8,600, and now 10,800 vehicles — represent nearly 200,000 parking spaces for global automotive trade.
