The S. Pellegrino Young Chef Academy, a global program dedicated to nurturing young culinary talent and started by S. Pellegrino, officially launched the Beijing leg of its new China season on Thursday at Giada Garden, alongside a roundtable discussion.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential platforms for emerging chefs worldwide, the initiative has been open to chefs under 30 since its inception in 2015. Through competitions, mentorship, and international exchange, it supports the next generation of culinary professionals in refining their craft and gaining global exposure.

Speaking at the launch, Olivier Depas, general manager and business operations director of Nestle Premium Waters and Beverages China, highlighted the country's rich culinary diversity and the depth of young talent. He noted that the program aims to help Chinese cuisine and the chefs behind it reach audiences beyond the domestic market and onto the global stage.

Offering a local perspective, Ming Liang, marketing and brand business development manager of Nestle Premium Waters and Beverages China, reflected on the evolution of the competition in the Chinese market. Over the past decade, he observed, the country's food and beverage sector has undergone notable transformation: younger chefs are increasingly focused on self-expression, regional flavors are being reinterpreted, and Chinese restaurants are steadily gaining international recognition.

In this context, platforms that connect talent with the broader industry have become more critical than ever. S. Pellegrino, he said, will continue to foster exchange and development through competitions and regional initiatives.

A roundtable discussion held during the event brought together four prominent chefs from China. The discussion centered on themes of expression, competition, and the future of the profession. Panelists shared insights on how competitions can shape career trajectories, how chefs can build visibility, and how the mindset shifts when transitioning from chef to restaurateur.

Applications for the seventh edition of the S. Pellegrino Young Chef Academy China competition are now open, with a submission deadline of June 9. Following the selection process, the top 10 finalists from China will advance to the regional and global stages.
