China records 46.9% surge in EV charging facilities to over 21m
China's total number of EV charging facilities reached 21.48 million by the end of March 2026, a year-on-year increase of 46.9 percent, official data showed.
Public charging facilities stood at 4.86 million with a total rated power of 234 million kilowatt, while private charging facilities hit 16.62 million with a power connection capacity of 147 million kilovolt-amperes, Liu Mingyang, deputy director of the National Energy Administration's electric power department, said during a news conference held in Beijing on Monday.
During this year's Spring Festival, EV travel hit a new high. Highways registered 6.02 million charging times with total charging volume at 14.98 million kWh, with daily average charging volume topping 1.66 million kWh, a record high, he said.
The authority expects a sharp rise in charging demand during the upcoming May Day holiday, vowing to ensure safe, orderly and efficient charging services.
Facing the explosive growth of electric heavy-duty trucks, the administration plans to push forward the construction of zero-carbon highway transport corridors and guided power grid firms to press ahead with distribution network upgrading and renovation.
