On April 6, the United States and the Philippines launched a series of military exercises, with Japan joining as a full participant for the first time. Over 7,000 troops are involved, covering live-fire drills, electronic warfare, and counter-drone operations.

Around 420 Japanese personnel are taking part. This marks the first time since World War II that Japanese combat-ready troops have set foot on Philippine soil. Experts said that Japan is becoming more deeply embedded in a US-led security framework. This kind of "minilateral alliance" is pushing the Asia-Pacific region toward bloc confrontation.
