The 2026 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, scheduled for March 13 to 15 at the Shanghai International Circuit, is fueling Shanghai's sports-driven economy.

Despite ticket prices rising about 10 percent from last year, all ticket categories sold out within three months of their official release in December.

Hotel prices near the circuit in the race period have risen sharply, and many hotels are already fully booked, including the Sheraton Shanghai Jiading Hotel, Hyatt Regency Shanghai Jiading, and Wyndham Shanghai Nanxiang.

Beyond sold-out tickets and fully booked hotels, Shanghai Jiushi Group, the operator of the Shanghai leg of the championship, has rolled out a series of racing-themed activities across the city, blending motorsport culture with urban life.

Since its introduction to Shanghai in 2004, the Chinese Grand Prix has grown into one of the city's flagship sporting events with global influence.

According to official F1 data, the number of F1 fans in China has surpassed 150 million and continues to grow.

Last year's Chinese Grand Prix drew about 220,000 spectators, 70 percent of whom traveled from outside Shanghai and 15 percent from overseas. The event generated 2.47 billion yuan in direct economic activity and spurred an additional 6.91 billion yuan in related spending, a year-on-year increase of more than 75 percent.
