(seeyangzhou.com)Updated: 2026-01-16

As the winter winds blow, the animals at Yangzhou Zhuyuwan Zoo have settled into their warm routines of the season that their keepers have tailored for them based on their unique needs.

Lions and tigers have switched to a high-protein winter menu, with more beef, chicken, and eggs in their meals. Keepers even hide portions in sacks around their outdoor areas — some hung high on branches, others tucked in dry grass — encouraging these big cats to stay active while foraging for food.

Flamingos usually reside in warm climates so they are particularly sensitive to the cold. Their cozy heated house provides essential warmth, protecting them from chilly winds and keeping their iconic pink feathers vibrant and smooth.

Capybaras enjoy thick layers of dry leaves in their enclosure, paired with underfloor heating. Their winter diet has also been enriched to keep them energized.

For primates like ring-tailed lemurs and gibbons, extra treats like peanuts and sunflower seeds are added to their meals to help them build up a little healthy winter fat.
