Qilihai Wetland records highs in migratory bird species and population

"To better safeguard the migration and reproduction of migratory birds, the reserve has strategically lowered the wetland water level to improve foraging conditions for wading birds like the Oriental white stork," said Tian Xiujing, director of Tianjin Qilihai Wetland Nature Reserve Management Committee.
Patrols have been increased during migration peaks to locate injured birds and address risks to wildlife, Tian added.
At the Qilihai monitoring center, the real-time dynamics of the large wetland are displayed on large screens. Drones complete patrols every 20 minutes, and an AI system detects intrusions and fire hazards. Wildlife activity is captured by 147 infrared cameras.
