Jinan to launch first drone delivery route
Jinan is set to introduce its first drone delivery route in its Central Business District (CBD), announced during a signing ceremony between Shandong SF Express and the Jinan Low-Altitude Economic Development Group.
The initiative aims to improve efficiency, streamline last-mile logistics, and support the development of the city's low-altitude economy.
The route connects SF Express's branch on Jiefang East Road to the north tower of the China Life building, spanning about three kilometers, with a delivery time of three to five minutes. Upon arrival, drones deliver parcels to lockers located beneath the building, where robots or personnel will distribute them to offices.
The service will use customized multi-rotor drones with a maximum range of 20 kilometers and a payload capacity of 10 kilograms. Designed specifically for urban delivery, the drones can handle signal disruptions in densely built-up areas and automatically avoid obstacles. They will return to base if the signal is lost and are equipped with emergency parachutes for safe operation. Flights can be conducted in wind speeds of up to level six and in light to moderate rain.
High building density and heavy traffic in the CBD creates challenges for traditional delivery methods, especially in adverse weather conditions. The drone route addresses these issues, ensuring fast, reliable, and efficient delivery while reducing pressure on ground transportation.
