At 0:58 am, village cadre Liu Mingfang used a loudspeaker to urgently instruct residents to leave immediately.
At around 4 am, a landslide triggered by the downpour sent muddy water crashing down, submerging half of the village at the foot of the mountain in minutes. The evacuated villagers, already sheltered at a temporary resettlement site 100 meters away, watched in relief as the disaster unfolded.
