Copa Libertadores roundup: River Plate go top of group
BUENOS AIRES - Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas de la Cruz struck two first-half goals as River Plate secured a 2-0 home win over Fortaleza in their Copa Libertadores group match on Wednesday.
Fernandez opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a long-range effort into the top left corner and De la Cruz doubled the lead just after the half-hour mark with a low drive following a corner.
The result at the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires left River top of Group F with six points from two matches, ahead of second-placed Colo-Colo on goal difference.
In Sao Paulo, Jose Caldera netted a 68th-minute own goal as Corinthians scraped to a 1-0 home victory over Deportivo Cali. All four teams in Group E now have three points each, with Deportivo Cali remaining top on goal difference.
In other Copa Libertadores matches on Wednesday, Libertad won 2-1 at home to Caracas, hosts Colo Colo prevailed 2-1 against Alianza Lima, Estudiantes drew 0-0 at Uruguay's Nacional and America Mineiro drew 1-1 at Atletico Mineiro.
