New Macao-Guangdong border checkpoint opens to public
A new border checkpoint between Macao and Guangdong province will open to the public from 3 pm on Wednesday.
The Qingmao Checkpoint, adjacent to Macao's Border Gate Checkpoint and for pedestrians only, is built to ease the existing nearby checkpoint's pressure caused by the growing flow of people between Macao and Guangdong.
The new checkpoint will stay open around the clock. The daily capacity of the new facility is 200,000 passengers crossing the border.
There will be 50 automated inbound channels for passenger clearance services and 50 automated outbound channels, with two staffed counters to be operated in each direction.
The checkpoint will adopt a customs clearance mode known as "joint inspection and one-time release" to shorten passengers' customs clearance time to around 30 seconds. Under the new customs system, the departure and arrival formalities for travelers can be processed in one go.
