A video of a woman with an artificial leg working out in a gym went viral recently.

Zhou Hui, 29, was injured in a car accident when she was 4. She lost her right leg and her left foot was deformed.

Although Zhou now looks no different from other people, she once felt inferior. But for the past three years she has gone to gym three times a week to stay fit.

"When I was in high school, no one knew I had an artificial leg," Zhou said. "I always kept a distance from my classmates. I was the first person walking into the classroom in the morning and the last one leaving."

After three years of persistent gym workouts, she overcame the difficulties and inconveniences of using commercial fitness facilities.

Zhou also volunteers for an accessibility program for the disabled. In November, she became the ambassador for the Shenzhen Accessibility Promotion Association. She believes building an accessible community for people with disabilities is vital.

"I hope our community will pay more attention to accessibility," she said. "I'll put in my efforts to make sure people with disabilities can have convenience and maintain their self-esteem when they go out."
