Rare gazelles spotted in national park

A group of goitered or black-tailed gazelles has been captured on video in a national park in Gansu province, local authorities said on Tuesday. The footage from the Qilian Mountain National Park shows 12 goitered gazelles feeding and running together in the Gobi Desert in Zhangye. Thanks to strengthened protection efforts, the ecology of the Qilian Mountains has been improved in recent years, with the number of wildlife growing, said Ma Duifang from the administration bureau of the national park. Goitered gazelles inhabit various types of desert and semiarid terrain and are under second-class national protection in China.

Drone finds murder suspect in mountains

An unmanned aerial vehicle helped find a murder suspect who went into hiding on a mountain and persuaded him to surrender to police, authorities in Hubei province said on Tuesday. The public security bureau of Enshi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture said the man disappeared on a snowy mountain in the town of Daping after allegedly murdering his wife on Dec 10, prompting a search involving more than 200 police and villagers. Police used three drones to assist in the search and one of them detected the suspect on the evening of Dec 11. It alerted the police and then relayed voice messages from police officers and members of the man's family that persuaded him to surrender to the police on Dec 16.
