Wei Shunshui's family has lived in a mountainous area in Guizhou for generations. The harsh geographical and climatic conditions mired the local residents in poverty. His parents went out of the mountains to work in cities after he was born, so he lived with his grandparents.

He didn't want to live his parents' life of doing manual labor for humble income. So he grabbed the straw of education to change his fate.
