Model judge granted posthumous honor
Hu Guoyun, a senior judge in Jiangxi province, was posthumously awarded the title of "national model judge". The decision to award Hu was jointly made by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Supreme People's Court, the SPC said in a statement on Monday. Hu started working as a court staff member in 1987 and was a tribunal chief and a member of the judicial committee at the province's High People's Court. He was still serving when he died on May 6. Authorities praised Hu's loyalty, diligence and devotion to work and called on Chinese judicial personnel to learn from his sense of responsibility, improve their work, always exercise their judicial powers for the people and ensure the impartial administration of justice.
Economic zone starts search for global talent
An economic and technological development area in Beijing's Daxing district has launched a cloud platform to help local high-tech companies recruit professionals from around the world amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the recruitment platform, 104 companies in Yizhuang, also known as E-Town, will hire more than 1,000 professionals from around the globe to fill various vacancies including key technicians and department heads and those of higher levels, the development area said on Saturday. Roughly three-quarters of the posts cover the area's four pillar industries, namely new-generation information technology, advanced and new-energy automobile, biotechnology and comprehensive health and robotic and intelligent manufacturing.
Remote sensing to forecast pest attacks
China has launched a remote sensing system for plant pests and disease monitoring and forecasting, according to the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. During an online conference focusing on plant pests and disease remote sensing on Aug 29 and 30, the monitoring and forecasting system was introduced with its multisource, multi-scale and multimode Big Earth Data covering vegetation parameter inversion, monitoring of pest and disease habitats, disaster identification and early warning, as well as loss assessment of farming and animal husbandry.

Three missing after torrential rains hit
Three people were reported missing after torrential rains hit Ganluo county, Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Sichuan province, on Sunday, the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters said on Monday. From Sunday evening to Monday, strong downpours ravaged eastern and northern parts of Liangshan, leaving three people missing and a bridge section of the Chengdu-Kunming railway destroyed. A total of 796 people were evacuated. The exact casualties and amount of damage are still being determined.

Prosecution initiated against murder suspect
Nanchang people's procuratorate in Jiangxi province has initiated prosecution of Lao Rongzhi, a woman suspected of being involved in the deaths of seven people, said a notice by the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Monday. Lao is accused of intentional homicide, kidnapping and robbery, the SPP revealed on its website. She allegedly killed seven people between 1996 and 1999 with her ex-boyfriend Fa Ziying. Lao, born in 1974, went into hiding and falsified her identity. She was helping a friend manage a business counter in a shopping mall in Xiamen, Fujian province, when she was captured in November 2019.Fa was given the death penalty for the seven killings and was executed in 1999.
