Courier traffic up 48% during Dragon Boat Festival holiday
China's courier industry has delivered over 651 million parcels during the most recent Dragon Boat Festival holiday, according to real-time monitoring data from the State Post Bureau on Sunday.
The industry's business volume during the three-day break between Thursday and Saturday marked a 48 percent increase from the same period last year, the bureau said, adding it has effectively facilitated the resumption of work and production and met people's delivery needs during the holiday.
The bureau also noted local authorities across the country have been promoting cultural tourism products and local specialties via livestream platforms and offline channels in an attempt to stimulate consumption, as well as issuing electronic shopping vouchers.
As a result, a growing number of consumers are turning to e-commerce for festival necessities. Online sales of traditional foods like zongzi (glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves) and salted duck egg, as well as milk, beer and meat have been on the upswing over the holiday.
The bureau has scaled up ventilation and disinfection in warehouses, and especially strengthened epidemic prevention and control measures in Beijing to ensure normal delivery services, it said.
